Questions from organisers
How do we get the 3% rate?
Submit your EIN and registration documents through business verification. Once the organisation is verified as a nonprofit, the reduced rate applies to every pledge on its campaigns.
Are pledges tax-deductible?
Usually not, because backers receive a reward in return. Speak to your accountant, and do not describe pledges as deductible donations on your campaign page.
Can an unregistered group raise money?
Yes, at the standard 5% rate, as long as the group and the person responsible are clearly identified and the campaign passes review.
What kinds of causes are allowed?
Community projects with a clear, local purpose: facilities, equipment, programs, events and repairs. Campaigns are reviewed before they go public.
