What an EIN is
An Employer Identification Number is the federal tax ID assigned to an organisation. Nonprofits use it on filings and bank accounts, and it is how we confirm that the organisation on the campaign is the organisation that exists on paper.
What verification checks
- The organisation's legal name, EIN and registered address.
- Registration or determination documents.
- A photo ID for the person running the campaign.
- Proof that the bank account belongs to the organisation.
What it unlocks
A verified nonprofit gets the reduced 3% platform rate instead of 5%, and the verified badge on every campaign page. Card processing is unchanged — that is paid to the payment provider, not to us.
What happens to your documents
Verification documents go into private storage. They are not shown on your campaign, not visible to backers, and only our review team can open them.
Common questions
How long does verification take?
It is a manual review by our team. Submit before you plan to launch rather than during your campaign.
Can we start a campaign while verification is pending?
You can build and submit a campaign, but the reduced rate and the badge apply once verification is approved.
